Does Your Tuxedo Have to Be Black and White?

You don’t get married every day – this is a once-in-a-lifetime kind of event you want to celebrate in grand style, in a truly beautiful way. You deserve this, your bride deserves this, and your love story itself deserves this as well.

Of course, given the huge importance of this day in your life, you want to look at your very best – but does that mean you have to stick to the classic black and white tux? Well, this is a question that needs to be treated from multiple perspectives – so we have gathered some tips to help you find the right answer for you and for your Big Day.

  • If you plan on having an elegant wedding (e.g. a ballroom event, or a wedding held in a very luxurious location), then yes, the black and white tuxedo is often expected of you. Of course, you set your own rules – but, in general, formal events come with a “Black Tie” dress code attached to them (and this means the black and white tuxedo and the black bow-tie are the best choices).
  • If you want your wedding to be even more elegant, you will have to tag it as “White Tie”. Keep in mind that this means you will be expected to wear a black tuxedo with a white bow-tie, and the bride (as well as all the other female guests) will most likely have to wear long dresses that show as little skin as possible (sometimes, ladies are even expected to wear long gloves).
  • For a formal/elegant event that’s not necessarily “Black Tie” or “White Tie”, you choose what to wear. We wouldn’t advise you to go as far as wearing a simple, casual suit, but a colored tuxedo is a very good idea if you want a pop of energy and uniqueness to be incorporated into your attire. Tuxedoes these days come in all colors under the sun – from dark navy to burgundy (ideal for a Fall wedding) and even pastels (beautiful on a sunny day of spring) – so you can definitely find something to suit you from all points of view.
